The Association sponsored a BIM-M Symposium on Tuesday, April 17th. A wide variety of representatives spoke at the Symposium presenting information on the many features of BIM-M that was both interesting and informative.
Jamie Davis, Ryan Biggs/Clark Davis Engineering & Surveying, kicked off the event sharing the latest innovations in the masonry industry that are being developed for the design community. Tom Cunieo, CAD BLOX, LLC & 3DiQ, Inc., shared information about BIM coordination for masonry and how it is now a reality and how a new software he developed (3DiQ) will make it easier for designers to incorporate masonry accurately into their Revit models. Mark Swanson, IMI, talked specifically about the Revit masonry content plug-in and the masonry unit data base (MUD) for Revit and how these tools will make it easier for designers to use masonry in their models. Fred Kinateder, Kinateder Consulting, gave examples of how mason contractors are using 3D models and how the resulting deliverables are being used to improve the work processes. Finally, Brett Bilodeau and Jason Beaman, Trimble, demonstrated equipment and tools that are available to make your masonry model useful in the field for layout.
The Symposium was well attended by Contractor and Associate members, as well as Architect and Engineer members who received 3.0 AIA credits. The presentation was well received sparking an impressive dialogue between the attendees and the speakers.
